A big change in your life can really make you question everything.
After our cross-Atlantic move from Europe to Canada, we started to take some small steps to change our life towards more natural habits. We started to make choices that are better for our environment and our bodies. I had a huge desire to feel more connected with Mother Nature and the Earth.
As part of this change, I started to learn about the low impact movement. Another part focused around me learning more about natural remedies. My mother has always used herbal remedies so this wasn't completely new to me. I feel that nature offers us so many things that we don’t
even acknowledge or use to our advantage.
Do you feel strongly connected to your feminine powers and moon cycle? I do, and I felt that it was out of balance with nature. To fix that, I started making my own herbal tea mixtures to calm my mooncycle and bring harmony to it. I also consciously make time during my period to slow down, take a moment for myself, and enjoy drinking my homemade tincture.
Since we are planning a family I also started to make an herbal tea mix to enhance fertility for both my husband and me. It’s only been a couple of months that we’ve been drinking it after dinner. It’s definitely become more than just a drink, more like a ritual for both of us. It tastes really nice too!
By now I’m sure you’re wondering where I leant about these herb mixtures, since I’m in no way an expert. I’ve been self-teaching myself about herbs for quite a while now, mainly by reading various books but also online. My favourite book on this subject is “Holistic Herbal: A Safe and Practical Guide to Making and Using Herbal Remedies” by David Hoffmann.
With what I have learnt so far, I came up with the following two recipes:
Moontime Tea
1 part nettle
1 part raspberry leaves
1 part motherwort
1 part oatstraw
1 part feverfew
Fertilitea
1 part goji berries
1 part vitex berries
½ part damiana leaves
1 part red clover
1 part epimedium/ horny goat weed
For both herbal mixtures, simply blend all the ingredients together and keep it in a glass jar or tea tin. When you want to enjoy one of these mixtures, you can fill a tea ball with some of it and steep the ball in hot water for about 5 minutes.
Enjoy, and remember to take a moment for yourself!
